Lady Lazarus

In chapter 26 we read the poem “Lady Lazarus”. In this poem you can really feel the authors pain. The author uses alot of symbols to represent herself. For example she compairs herself to a “Jew murdered in a concentration camp, a cat with nine lives and Lady Lazarus”. By these symbols we can tell that the author thinks of herself as being unimportant or maybe just forgotten. At the end of the poem the speaker says that she will rise again out of the ash, saying that she never really goes through with her suicide attempts. I believe that the speaker never follows through for the sake of coming alive again and maybe just maybe having someone notice her cries for help.

To me this poem was a girl who has a cry for attention. The dramatic symbolism is over the top!
